A collection of special historical books

This auction offers a considerable collection of antiquarian books from the possession of an Amsterdam collector, which were stored in an attic for years. This extensive collection consists mainly of historical travel reports, important works on flora and fauna, history and theology from the 17th, 18th and 19th centuries.

Some examples of the works that will be auctioned;

41 volumes from the authoritative English Botany series, written and beautifully illustrated with coloured engravings by James Sowerby (lot number 2001).

Accurate description of the islands in the archipelago of the Mediterranean Sea by Olfert Dapper, published in 1688 and based on many classical sources and richly illustrated with maps and engravings (lot number 2025).

Flora Batava, 12 parts from the period 1800 to 1865. A botanical masterpiece and the very first illustrated overview of the wild flora in our country. The book was published between 1800 and 1934 in 28 parts. (lot number 2037)

 

Three-year journey to China etc., by Ysbrandts Ides, a fascinating travelogue of the Russian ambassador to Beijing in the years 1657-1708. Published by Pieter de Coup in 1710, and illustrated with many engravings of cities and town views (lot number 2038).

British Zoology, by Thomas Pennant, three volumes of this important work with fine engravings of mammals, birds and reptiles published by Benjamin White in 1776 (lot number 1990).
