Modern and contemporary paintings, drawings and graphics

The work ‘Woman with dog’ by Karel Appel dates from 1982. In this period Appel had long been an established name in the international art world, but he continued to develop — even though his style remained recognizably expressive and powerful. This period shows a slightly different, more mature side of him, in which he allowed more room for refinement without losing his wild energy. This work is a good example of that (lot number 6803).

Walasse Ting (1929–2010) was a Chinese-American artist and poet, famous for his explosively colorful paintings of women, flowers, animals, and exotic scenes. His work forms a unique bridge between Eastern sensibility and Western avant-garde, and he is often associated with pop art, expressionism, and abstract art. The three small watercolors are characteristic of his style (lot numbers 6879, 6882, and 6883).

André Lanskoy (1902-1976) was an influential Russian artist known for his expressive painting style, influenced by Fauvism and Cubism. He played a major role in the École de Paris and was known for his vivid use of color and dynamic compositions. Often reflecting the emotional depth of human experience, Lanskoy’s work is of great importance to post-war art in Europe (lot number 6827).

Jean Rustin (1928–2013) was a French painter best known for his raw, confrontational and often disturbing paintings of the human body. His work is strongly emotionally charged. From the collection of Marion Bloem we offer six works by him (lot number 6840, 6842, 6842, 6846, 6860 and 6860A).
