An extraordinary necklace by Georges Lenfant for Cartier

Atelier Georges Lenfant is considered one of the best goldsmith workshops of the twentieth century. With collaborations with all the major houses on the Parisian Place Vendôme, such as Hermès, Van Cleef & Arpels, Mellerio, Fred and of course Cartier, Lenfant is an indispensable name in the French jewellery world.

Georges Lenfant was born into a family of jewellers and goldsmiths and founded his own shop and workshop on the Rue des Petits-Champs around 1900. In 1915 his son Jacques joined, then only eleven years old.

After the Second World War Jacques took over his father’s company and continued to use the master mark Georges Lenfant. The heyday followed in the 60s and 70s after the design and release of various collections of gold link bracelets and necklaces made of delicate braiding and with a high-quality finish and detailing. It became the trademark of the house.

This can be seen in the link necklace with lot number 150. The links are heavy in quality and exceptionally well finished, the bright blue sapphires are all untreated and the brilliant cut diamonds are set in such a way that those with light fluorescence are mirrored to each other. It is a necklace with sublime detailing.

In 2003, Lenfant production ceased when the company was taken over by Atelier Bouder. Today, jewelry with the master mark Georges Lenfant is highly sought after; they are not only proof of excellent quality and craftsmanship, but also an icon of timeless elegance.
